Research Proposal & Presentation - COMM 302
During my COMM 302 course, I was tasked with completing a research proposal spanning the entire course with a focus on "Modern Digital Relationships." The research proposal would be presented at the end of the course to my peers, where I would discuss my research and its significance. For my paper, I looked at "The Role of Social Pressure and FoMO on Spending in Free-To-Play Games." With this experience, I had to properly research, analyze, and discuss previous findings and conduct a literature review on my findings. Afterward, I came up with a research question and two testable hypotheses. I developed a method of gathering information through a survey study and discussed possible results and implications with the study. I have never conducted this type of proposal and presentation before, so going through this process was something new for me. Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of how to develop and present a proposal compellingly to various audiences. It has made me more confident in the research I conduct today, as well as my presentation skills, enabling me to clearly communicate my findings to audiences who may not be familiar with my topic.
Technology
Ren'Py Prototype - GAME 395
In GAME 395, I was tasked with developing a prototype using Ren'Py, a software that integrates Python as its primary coding language. I have had some experience coding before; however, this project helped me improve my skills as I began to understand Python on a deeper level. Through the experience, I learned how to make dialogue trees that branched depending on player response, how to define characters and backgrounds, as well as how to generate multiple endings. I created a visual novel based on a screenplay named Serving Time, which I developed in a previous course. I am passionate about telling this story, which is why I have continued working on it over the past year. Understanding how software like Ren'Py operates is crucial, particularly in game design, as coding is a vital skill required in nearly every position. Without it, securing a job in the industry becomes an unlikely prospect.

Professionalism & Teamwork
Studio Center Internship - COMM 368
In COMM 368, I gained my first real professional experience in the media industry through my internship at Studio Center. This experience placed me in a traditional day-to-day setting, where my supervisors often entrusted me to assist in creating content for the social media pages that Studio Center operates. Additionally, I frequently collaborated with my supervisors and other interns on content ideas and observed how different departments operate. I was expected to complete work promptly and was given work that would contribute to the success of Studio Center, rather than just busywork. Through this experience, I gained insight into what it's like to work in a professional setting and learned how to collaborate effectively with people outside my department. I also discovered how to leverage our strengths to improve Studio Center. I will apply what I have learned to future job prospects, whether in the game industry or media production, as I now have a better understanding of what is expected from me as an employee. A lot of the time, these industries require collaboration with other departments, and being able to do that here was especially important in understanding that aspect in more depth.
